1

On December 14, 2013 Modxchange had the privilege of attending the Filipino benefit in association with Andre Soriano and the Philippine Performing Arts Academy (PASCAT) at San Diego, California’s own Seaworld. The show ran in conjunction with the Filipino-American association as well as “Operation Samahan” providing the benefits to Volunteer for Visahans. An organization to help survivors of the typhoon “Haiyan” that hit the Philippines in November of this year. The entire night was brought together with the help of not only the team and it’s sponsors, but the local community of volunteers from Chula Vista, San Diego, Escondido and Los Angeles.

The event took place in the amusement park’s Nautilus pavilion and featured a glamorous red carpet entrance, great food, a silent auction, cultural dance and musical performances. Not to mention a performance by San Diego’s own, undefeated Filipino boxer Mercito Gesta. However, the highlight of the evening was undoubtedly the fashion show, showcasing pieces of Andre Soriano’s collection.

The “Styled to Rock” (in association with Rihanna) competitor, with his all-black gowns and intricate design techniques showcased styles reminiscent of old hollywood glamour and punk deluxe aesthetic with strategic using of layers to accentuate the body. Soriano showcased a mixture of women’s and menswear. The womenswear consisted of gowns ranging from bridal to avant garde with a fetish twist. While the menswear featured a mixture of casual and formal-wear mainly constructed out of leather. The show ended on a high note as Soriano debuted a silver pleated and layered gown with a plunging neckline and a dramatic appeal akin to the rest of his work seen throughout the night. Overall, it was a night filled with fashion, fun, networking and fundraising. It proved to be a tremendous success and a great evening to help a worthy cause.
