Colorful fur jackets were very popular this winter but this trend went step further and next year we will be seeing a lot of colorful patchwork and vivid prints on fur. Miuccia Prada even made some printed fur coats for the summer, but we have seen more of this at fall/winter shows. Jean-Charles de Castelbajac, well known for his artistic prints on clothes, used them on fur this time, while Altuzarra, Aquilano Rimondi and Daks have shown us interesting patterns printed on fur.
Patchwork is definitely a huge trend for fall/winter 2014 and we have seen some beautiful coats made from colorful patches at Phillip Lim, Roksanda Ilincic and Topshop Unique. Prada’s latest collection includes some leather coats with fur trimmings in vivid colors, while Vercase and Dolce&Gabbana designed some amazing fur coats in bright red which look incredibly warm.
UK fashion designers completely reinvented the Christmas jumper this year and made a boring old woolly jumper with tacky wintery motifs into a fabulous designer piece. Christmas jumpers are hugely popular in the UK with all high street shops such as Topshop, Primark, Marks & Spencer, Dorothy Perkins, New Look and Miss Selfridge selling them. Far from being an embarrassing present from your granny, it is cool and fashionable.
Christmas jumper was never as popular as this season since it has been given a luxurious makeover. In order to raise the money for Save the Children, 14 British labels including Alexander McQueen, Burberry, Paul Smith, Vivienne Westwood, Anya Hindmarch and House of Holland created unique festive jumpers to be sold at the charity auction which will take place on December 13th in London.
Each of the designers had a different idea of a luxurious makeover of the Christmas jumper. While Anya Hindmarch played with words and wrote “Save the children anagrams to deliver cash then” on her jumper, and Burberry created a cute “Burberry with love” jumper with hearts and landmarks of London, Alexander McQueen jumper is embellished with white crocheted flowers and Christmas decorations. The collection will be displayed at Westfield London from November 28th.
When thinking about what coat to buy this season, there are many options from classical trench or a fur coat to an oversized cape. Sleeveless coats may not be the best choice if you are looking for something warm, but they certainly are a huge trend and can be mixed with leather jackets, for example. Some of the best pieces are seen at Victoria Beckham, Antonio Beardi, and Marni. If they are not sleeveless, they can be collarless, or even both. However, if they are not too good at protecting you from the cold weather, they certainly look nice.
Huge masculine loose-fitting coats as seen at Stella McCartney, Christopher Kane and Max Mara are also very trendy. They are so big that you can literally fit in another one underneath, and no one will ever notice. If you are in the mood for the classic British look this winter, you can’t make a mistake with Burberry, but you can also go for Moschino’s cute little tartan coat or Dolce & Gabbana tweed coat.
Long elegant coat like the one from Louis Vuitton can also be an investment buy, but if you want something truly beautiful and original you will fall in love with Valentino coats with scalloped edges. However, if you want a bit of bright colors in your life, Paul Smith or Emporio Armani can be just the perfect choice.
