Spring/Summer Trends: Heavy Embellishments

From Prada bejeweled dresses to Louis Vuitton black embellishments, we have seen a lot of chunky beads at spring/summer shows. Marni collection features some heavily embellished sportswear and Christopher Bailey’s collection for Burberry included some incredible pieces studded with chunky jewels. This season’s novelty are big sparkly rocks, even though some designers such as Roberto Cavalli, Marc Jacobs and Jenny Packham decided to stick to more subtle embellishments. Simone Rocha used big white pearls and stitched them to collars, handbags, shoes and even socks, while Dolce & Gabbana covered their dresses in golden coins and yellow jewels.

Fall/Winter 2014 Trends: Colorful Fur

Colorful fur jackets were very popular this winter but this trend went step further and next year we will be seeing a lot of colorful patchwork and vivid prints on fur. Miuccia Prada even made some printed fur coats for the summer, but we have seen more of this at fall/winter shows.  Jean-Charles de Castelbajac, well known for his artistic prints on clothes, used them on fur this time, while Altuzarra, Aquilano Rimondi and Daks have shown us interesting patterns printed on fur.

Patchwork is definitely a huge trend for fall/winter 2014 and we have seen some beautiful coats made from colorful patches at Phillip Lim, Roksanda Ilincic and Topshop Unique. Prada’s latest collection includes some leather coats with fur trimmings in vivid colors, while Vercase and Dolce&Gabbana designed some amazing fur coats in bright red which look incredibly warm.

Spring/Summer Trends: Metallic Colors

From girly ruffled dresses to leather biker jackets, plenty of metallic colors were seen at spring/summer shows in Paris, New York, Milan and London. While some designers like Alber Elbaz from Lanvin and Gareth Pugh were inspired by futurism and used hi-tech metallic fabrics, collections by Dries Van Noten and Rochas were very feminine and romantic. Dolce & Gabbana used a lot of golden materials and even made a gown from metal coins, and Anna Sui made them work with her flamboyant boho style dresses. Cristopher Kane was brave enough to mix multicolored metallic fabric with feathers, while Haider Ackermann used patches of gold and silver for her asymmetric dresses, but also skirts, trousers and suits.

Donatella Versace, Roberto Cavalli and Altuzarra used this trend as an excuse to make very sexy dresses, and collections by Meadham Kirchhoff and Marc by Marc Jacobs created some fabulous urban-wear pieces like metallic jackets.

How to wear this trend?

Since we could see a lot of modern light-weight fabrics, this trend can easily work for both spring summer parties. It is ideal for parties and glamorous events, but is can also be worn during the day in a more casual style. Head-to-toe in metallics would probably be too much, but if you choose one cool piece like a top or a jacket and combine it with other colors, it will blend in nicely. Haider Ackermann’s styling for her spring/summer 2014 show is a very good example how to rock this trend during the day.

Bags for Spring/Summer 2014

While must-have bags for fall and winter were too tiny, one of the major spring/summer 2014 trends is an oversized clutch. Big clutches are very handy because you can fit anything you like inside them, but you can also squeeze and fold them so that they don’t take too much space. They can look very urban and modern like the ones from Topshop Unique, elegant and feminine like the ones from Dries Van Noten, or even deadly serious and ideal for a working woman such as Mulberry ones made out of leather. Speaking of leather, python skin is going to be omnipresent this year, but as for the spring/summer bags, the ones from Christian Dior are very special because they are dyed in bright, funky colors. Croco skin is also trendy and you can choose from classical Bottega Veneta ones to Michael Kors’s trendy big clutches.

The most talked about slogan bags for the forthcoming season are definitely Kate Spade’s book clutches, but the pretties girly clutches of the season are probably Burberry ones because of beautiful pastel shades and delicate floral appliques. Arty prints is one of the key trends for the forthcoming season and the best examples are Prada and Chanel handbags. Prada also has lovely croco leather bags embellished with jewels, while Miu Miu accessories are inspired by 1960-s and are made in lovely pastel hues. On the other hand, Lanvin metallic bin bags are just revolutionary, Tory Burch created wonderful collection of bags covered in wallpaper-like florals, Carven designed beautiful furoshiki inspired cloth bags and Marc Jacobs and Valentino went for boho style.

Lottie Moss Poses for Dazed & Confused

It looks like 16-year-old Lottie Moss is following the footsteps of her half-sister Kate. She recently signed for Storm modeling agency and already has her first fashion editorial in February issue of Dazed & Confused. It is called “From Lottie with Love”.

Images were taken on the streets of London and Lottie is wearing clothes and accessories by Miu Miu, Prada, Maison Martin Margiela, Zadig and Voltaire, Saint Laurent, Topshop Unique and Dolce & Gabbana. “We wanted the shoot to have an easy London feel. We were thinking of a young Jean Shrimpton, Marianne Faithfull or Plum Sykes”, said Sean and Seng who photographed this editorial.

Beautiful dreamy images are followed by Lottie’s short interview in the form of Dazed’s Pop Quiz and said that her favorite piece from the shoot was Prada bejeweled coat from spring/summer 2014 collection.

Spring/Summer 2014 Trends: Prints and Patterns

From Phoebe Philo’s collection for Celine which is abundant with bold prints and bright colors, to Dolce & Gabbana who experimented with florals and illustrations, many designers used a lot of quirky prints and vivid patterns in their collections. Inspired by femininity and powerful women, Muccia Prada created one of her most extraordinary collections and collaborated with painters whose illustrations she printed on clothes.

Giles used some unpublished photographs and printed them on fabrics, while Riccardo Tisci’s collection for Givenchy features fun and colorful tribal motifs. Miu Miu collection for spring/summer 2014 includes plenty of bright colors and cute flower and animal prints, while Antonio Marras used florals in pastel colors but also some black and white avant-garde prints.

Craziest prints were seen at Stella Jean show at Milan Fashion week. She was inspired by exotic flowers and animals, whereas Aquilano Rimondi collection features some adorable stylish printed silk skirs, dresses and shirts with illustrations of tropical islands.

Christmas Party Shoes

It is time to think about buying shoes for a Christmas party! If you are going for the simple and elegant dress, you can add a bit of craziness to your outfit with right accessories. Charlotte Olympia created another wonderful Christmas collection this year, and it features some amazing golden sandals, but also a pair of black stilettos with golden platform and mistletoe tied with red ribbon on top. The whole collection is very cheerful and festive, and includes quirky pieces such as gingerbread man shaped bag, Christmas pudding pouch and a red PVC gift box clutch.

If you find Charlotte Olympia’s accessories too eccentric, you can consider Christian Louboutin or Jimmy Choo who made some lavish Christmassy bejeweled pumps. There also are some amazing Miu Miu high heels embellished with sparkly beads from resort 2014 collection which is already in the shops. However, if you are looking for perfect red shoes, think of Dolce&Gabbana or Valentino recent collections.
