From Prada bejeweled dresses to Louis Vuitton black embellishments, we have seen a lot of chunky beads at spring/summer shows. Marni collection features some heavily embellished sportswear and Christopher Bailey’s collection for Burberry included some incredible pieces studded with chunky jewels. This season’s novelty are big sparkly rocks, even though some designers such as Roberto Cavalli, Marc Jacobs and Jenny Packham decided to stick to more subtle embellishments. Simone Rocha used big white pearls and stitched them to collars, handbags, shoes and even socks, while Dolce & Gabbana covered their dresses in golden coins and yellow jewels.
Burberry Prorsum pre-fall 2014 collection is inspired by British style and features a lot of warm fall colors and typical English floral patterns on dresses and coats. There are also some amazing pieces inspired by London such as classical trench with ‘A to Z’ map print and T-shirts with drawing of St. Paul’s cathedral. To reach out to the global market, Christopher Bailey made this utterly British collection international and created some souvenir pieces with drawings of Chrysler building in New York, Shanghai’s World Financial Center and the Forbidden City in Beijing.
The collection is highly influenced by 19th century Arts and Crafts movement and is made from luxurious fabrics such as silk jacquards woven on traditional tie looms with details like velvet appliqués and tapestry brocade accessories. There are also few breathtaking full length dresses made out of over-embroidered lace and printed chiffon which are casually combined with cropped jackets.
