Fall/Winter 2014 Trends: Colorful Fur

Colorful fur jackets were very popular this winter but this trend went step further and next year we will be seeing a lot of colorful patchwork and vivid prints on fur. Miuccia Prada even made some printed fur coats for the summer, but we have seen more of this at fall/winter shows.  Jean-Charles de Castelbajac, well known for his artistic prints on clothes, used them on fur this time, while Altuzarra, Aquilano Rimondi and Daks have shown us interesting patterns printed on fur.

Patchwork is definitely a huge trend for fall/winter 2014 and we have seen some beautiful coats made from colorful patches at Phillip Lim, Roksanda Ilincic and Topshop Unique. Prada’s latest collection includes some leather coats with fur trimmings in vivid colors, while Vercase and Dolce&Gabbana designed some amazing fur coats in bright red which look incredibly warm.

Spring/Summer Trends: Metallic Colors

From girly ruffled dresses to leather biker jackets, plenty of metallic colors were seen at spring/summer shows in Paris, New York, Milan and London. While some designers like Alber Elbaz from Lanvin and Gareth Pugh were inspired by futurism and used hi-tech metallic fabrics, collections by Dries Van Noten and Rochas were very feminine and romantic. Dolce & Gabbana used a lot of golden materials and even made a gown from metal coins, and Anna Sui made them work with her flamboyant boho style dresses. Cristopher Kane was brave enough to mix multicolored metallic fabric with feathers, while Haider Ackermann used patches of gold and silver for her asymmetric dresses, but also skirts, trousers and suits.

Donatella Versace, Roberto Cavalli and Altuzarra used this trend as an excuse to make very sexy dresses, and collections by Meadham Kirchhoff and Marc by Marc Jacobs created some fabulous urban-wear pieces like metallic jackets.

How to wear this trend?

Since we could see a lot of modern light-weight fabrics, this trend can easily work for both spring summer parties. It is ideal for parties and glamorous events, but is can also be worn during the day in a more casual style. Head-to-toe in metallics would probably be too much, but if you choose one cool piece like a top or a jacket and combine it with other colors, it will blend in nicely. Haider Ackermann’s styling for her spring/summer 2014 show is a very good example how to rock this trend during the day.

Anna Sui’s Minnie Mouse Makeup Collection

anna sui minnie

American designer Anna Sui, who is well known for her original and quirky design, created a beautiful Christmas makeup collection inspired by Disney’s Minnie Mouse. It is very colorful and girly, and it makes a perfect holiday present. The collection includes two gift sets in red and purple with eye shadows and lipsticks, but also nail polishes, mascaras, lip and body balms and a hand cream which comes in a lovely silk bag. Lipsticks and nail polishes are even molded in the shape of Minnie Mouse. Packaging design is made in typical Anna Sui style – both feminine and child-like with her signature butterfly motif. All the products including nail polishes are scented with lavender tea roses perfume, and one can easily be absorbed into the sweet and creative world of Anna Sui, simply by opening a tiny bottle.

The collection is going to be appealing to grown up women, as well as little girls, who always want to steal their mothers’ makeup. With all the products priced under $ 50, this collection is also very affordable. They will also be available in the UK through Asos.com.

Resort 2014: Rich, Glamorous and Bohemian

Resort 2014 collections are cheerful and light, full of bright colors and floral prints. From strict night gowns to feathery summer dresses and cropped trousers, there is everything you need for a romantic holiday. Anna Sui’s collection is very bohemian with 30s silhouettes and bright fruit prints, while Temperley London collection was inspired by 50s style and features A line dresses, as well as luxurious and flamboyant night gowns with floral prints and appliqués.

Stella McCartney’s 60s style pink dress with lips, heats and matches is one of the most talked about pieces. It will debut in December issue of British Vogue, and seems to be just the perfect choice for Christmas or St. Valentine’s. Her collection features a range of A line pop art inspired dresses with quirky prints in white and light pink, but also many other exciting pieces, such as snake skin blazers, as well as trousers and dresses with floral prints. Alice + Olivia resort collection also features dresses with lips print. It is inspired by a school girl’s holiday in the English countryside and there are a lot of stripes, polka dots and floral prints in red, pink, navy and white.

Inspired by Rio de Janeiro, Gucci collection is relaxed and glamorous. It is an adorable mix of fluid silhouettes, bright colors, metallic fabrics and quirky prints. Roksanda Ilincic used metallic details to accent her voluminous gowns with innovative shapes and floral appliqués. She combined different shades of blue, from navy to sky-blue, while beige is teamed with light purple.

Many resort collections have beautiful lace and satin floor length gowns, but nobody can beat Valentino and Oscar de la Renta dresses made with incredible precision, technique and, designed with taste. While Valentino collection combined effortless chic with sublime couture his gorgeous day-to-night lace dresses, Oscar de la Renta created a delightful collection of strict and glamorous silk gowns.
