Paris Fashion Week is one of the most important fashion events of the year and it attracts many celebrities, journalists and fashion designers from all over the world. We have seen some distinguished guests already wearing pieces from latest fall/winter collections and one of them was Rihanna who showed up in Prada coat at Miu Miu show. We have also seen a lot of inspirational styling combinations made out of pieces from spring/summer collections. While Elle Fanning showed us an interesting way to wear Miu Miu pastels, Anna Dello Russo taught us how to rock a colorful Celine coat.
The leading motif of 86th Academy Awards ceremony last night was diversity with “12 Years A Slave” winning the best picture Oscar, Lupita Nyong’o awarded as the best supporting actress and Jared Leto honored as the best supporting actor for his role of a transgender AIDS patient in “Dallas Buyers Club”. This is the first time that a black director gets the top award at the Oscars. “Everyone deserves not just to survive but to live”, said Steve McQueen, the British-born film director who dedicated his film to 21 million people still enduring slavery today. The film was also received an Oscar for the Best Adapted Screenplay, but the most emotional moment of the whole ceremony was when Lupita Nyong’o came up on the stage to receive her award for the best supporting actress. She started crying and said that this honor was the joy of her life and added: “It doesn’t escape me for one moment that so much joy in my life is due to so much pain in someone else’s”.
“Gravity” was awarded with seven Oscars, including the honour of Best Director for Alfonso Cuaron, and “The Great Beauty” was awarded as the Best Foreign Language Film.
Matthew McConaughey was named the Best Actor for the role in “Dallas Buyers Club” beating Christian Bale, Leonardo DiCaprio, Bruce Dern and Chiwetel Ejiofor, while Cate Blanchett got her second Oscar and was honoured the Best Actress. Nobody was as surprised as she was when the winner of this category was announced. She was literally shocked and thanked Woody Allen for assigning her for the role in his film “Blue Jasmine”. In her recent interviews Blanchett said that she didn’t expect to get any more leading roles since careers of female actresses seem to be short lived. In her acceptance speech she said: “[There are those] who are still foolishly clinging to the idea that female films with women at the centre are niche experiences. They are not. Audiences want to see them, and in fact, they earn money. The world is round people”.
Spike Jonze’s film “Her” won the Original Screenplay award and “Frozen” was named the Best Animated Feature Film, while “The Great Gatsby” bagged awards for Best Costume Design and Best Production Design.
If there were awards in the red carpet gowns category, Cate Blanchett with her stunning Armani Prive embellished gown and Lupita Nyong’o in a beautiful pale blue Prada dress would definitely be the winners, but there were also many other fantastic looks at the ceremony and at super glamorous Vanity Fair after party.

Rumors that there is going to be another Sex and the City film started back in 2010, but when the director Michael Patrick King told Entertainment weekly that he might create one more chapter of Sex and the City few days ago, it caused a lot of fuss in the media. Judging by his latest interview it seems that King is uncertain and slightly worried about how people would react if they heard that there will be another film, but he said that that there is definitely one more story to tell about the four girls. “Sarah Jessica and I both know what that final chapter is. That doesn’t mean it will or should be told, but I do think there’s one story left. Whether it ever happens is a whole other situation. But there’s four girls, and those girls are still on my mind”, said King.
However, since the last movie received fairly bad critics, it might be risky to make another one and possibly disappoint Sex and the City fans one more time. The reason that the question keeps popping in the media might be that the producers are trying to find out how people feel about it. All four actresses are up for it and Sarah Jessica Parker said: “isn’t a decision that can wait forever. I don’t want to have to wear muumuus”. So if there really is going to be another chapter, it will happen sooner rather than later.
“It’s not all down to my voice. There’s people with way more talent than I when it comes to singing. Bigger voices. But people want to know who you are. Fashion is a clear indication, a way to express your attitude, your mood”, says Rihanna who announced that she is starting her own fashion label in an interview for US Vogue. This will not be the first time for Rihanna to design clothes, since she previously collaborated on a collection with Armani Jeans and co-designed for British brand River Island with Selman who designs her stage costumes.
She has a unique style and likes to combine tomboy look with sexy things like high heels and embellished tops. “I love baggy things. I wear men’s clothes, men’s shoes, oxfords, creepers”, she said to Vogue. She is also notorious for wearing bodysuits and men’s jackets, but we also discovered that she never wears a bra underneath a top: “If I’m wearing a bra, I just wear a bra”, she admits. When asked how did she develop her signature look, she replied: “When you’re on tour, you go to rehearse wearing sweats and sneaks. Then you practice your song in the heels you are going to wear that night. I realized, Wow, that looks cool!”
Rihanna is definitely not just a superstar singer but also a style icon that inspires many fashion designers. “There is no one else that excites me more”, said Alexander Wang while Peter Dundas called her “a very talented dresser, in the way that Kate Moss is”. Olivier Rousteing said that she is “the new Wonder Woman”, and according to Tom Ford “she can throw on combinations you can’t imagine other people could possibly wear, and look great. In the fashion world she has inspired a very, very loose mix of random items.”
Judging by her personal style, we can only assume that her first collection will feature a lot of tomboy looks and sexy clothes, but there is no doubt that she will find a way to shock and surprise us.
When it comes to street style at London Fashion Week it is never just about trends but also about that quirky British style, UK designers and never-ending rain. It is not at all surprising that there are so many eccentric designs at London Fashion Week catwalks when you see what the fashion crowds are wearing. They will actually buy all of it.

After winning Golden Globe and Critics Choice awards, Cate Blanchett received The Best Actress award at the Baftas for the role of Jeanette Francis in Woody Allen’s ‘Blue Jasmine’. It was one of the most emotional moments at the ceremony because Blanchett decidet to dedicate this honor to the late Philip Seymour Hoffman: “Phil, your monumental talent, your unflinching quest for truth both in art and in life will be missed by so many people. This is for you, you bastard, hope you’re proud” she said.
For many critics the fact that ’12 Years a Slave’ won only two awards (Best Picture and Best Actor – Chiwetel Ejiofor) came as a surprise. ‘Gravity’ winning six of eleven nominations, including The Best British Film award was even more surprising to the Brits who didn’t see it as British enough.
Moreover, Jennifer Lawrence beat Lupita Nyong’o in Supporting Actress category and Bakhard Abdi, who played a Somali pirate in Captain Phillips, won the Supporting Actor award over Michael Fassbender.
On the other hand, some find the selection of red carpet gowns far more interesting than the ceremony itself. While Cate Blanchett wore Alexander McQueen black satin dress, Lupita Nuong’o has chosen a green Dior Couture gown. Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt showed up both dressed up in tuxedos – hers from Saint Laurent and his from Valentino. Amy Adams was in black too, wearing Victoria Beckham, and Lea Seydoux matched her royal blue Miu Miu dress with Chopard jewelry. Helen Miren looked dashing in Jacques Azagury gown teamed with Jimmy Choo clutch and Asprey jewelry, Lily Allen wore colorful Vivienne Westwood dress, and Uma Thurman looked amazing in tight navy dress by Atelier Versace.
Since the BAFTA ceremony took place during London Fashion Week it was interesting to see celebrities wearing British designers. Laura Carmichael wore Erdem strapless dress, Oprah Winfrey showed up in Stella McCartney gown and Olga Kurylenko has chosen a Burberry dress.
Mulberry canceled showing of their fall/winter collection, but only to stage a presentation of Cara Delvingne’s collection of bags at Claridges during London Fashion Week. Collaboration started immediately after Delevingne casually mentioned that she would like to design a bag for the brand while posing for their spring/summer 2014 campaign. The Mulberry team started working with her immediately.
The key concept behind The Mulberry Cara Delevingne Collection was creating bags that can be worn in all occasions. The result is a collection of three models of handbags bags in three different sizes which have straps and can be worn as backpacks or carried on the shoulder. This clever patent was never used before and it allows you to have one single bag that can be worn in three different ways to match both day and evening outfits.
After the presentation at Claridges Delvingne said that she was happy to design her Mulberry bags rather than just putting her name on somebody else’s creation. She confessed that the first bag she ever had was Mulberry Edie. “Before that it was always fabric bags from India. I loved that bag and wore it to death”, she said.
