Climate change is the hot topic in the world of fashion design. While Vivienne Westwood uses her shows as political campaigns and prints “Climate Change” on clothes, Alexander Wang is thinking about the consequences of global warming. His fall/winter show at New York Fashion Week was inspired by severe weather conditions and created a collection of survival gear. On the other hand, in his collection for Balenciaga Wang continued to develop his concept of sport style infused modern glamour and focused on geometric shapes, layering and knits, but he is still very conscious of climate conditions. He is thinking practically and therefore makes clothes that we really need.
The most striking piece from Wang’s collection for Baleciaga was a laminated wool jacket with a fur collar. Basically, by combining a wooly jumper and a raincoat he created the perfect winter jacket which will protect you from rain, wind and snow.
We have seen laminated knits at the Vionnet show too. Navy blue coat was paired with a green woolly one-piece suit and fur sandals. It seems that laminated knits are the new craze shaping up into a trend for the next winter.
