Pleats, Prints and Hand Patterns: Holly Fulton Fall/Winter 2014

Even without fun, eye-catching prints and collage appliqués, Holly Fulton’s collection would still be very appealing. It is the choice of fabrics as well as colors and of course her tailoring that makes it so special. Her day coats, pleated skirts and silk dresses in sky blue, soft pink, beige, ocher, silver and black are perfectly structured and elegant.

However, kooky prints and hand-stitched appliqués are so alluring that they overshadowed everything else. She printed her own manicured hands and boots from this very collection on coats and dresses and it looked cool and funny at the same time. She also used gingko leaves and exclamation marks as motifs for her Art Deco print designs, but gigantic images of hands squeezing old mobile phones, key rings and small handbags were absolutely stunning. “My hands are very important to me, I work with them”, Fulton explained her obsession and admitted that she once had a dream to become a hand model.
