Knives, Moonbows and a Junk Dress: Cynthia Rowley Fall/Winter 2014

Cynthia Rowley’s fall/winter 2014 presentation at Diamond Horseshoe venue at New York Fashion Week was very intriguing not only because of knife-throwing action in the film she showed and stunning set design which makes the perfect background for her clothes, but also because of her extremely colorful designs.

Rowley was inspired by lunar rainbows produced by the light reflected off the moon’s surface. The collection therefore features a lot of great party dresses with moonbow prints, sparkly embellishments and patchwork, but also some sporty outfits with fun pieces such as three-piece sweaters. “These sweaters that are sort of like puzzle pieces that all fit together. It’s a crew neck, and then it has a little dickie on it. But you can wear it out or in”, the designer told Elle.com.

Since she likes both girly style and tomboy look, the collection is a peculiar mix between the two and includes cropped trousers and sporty tops, as well as romantic ruffles and shiny beads. The craziest piece is certainly the ‘Junk Dress’ made from various small objects found in drawers. It took 30 hours to finish it.
