Along with pastel colors, strong prints and witty slogans, florals are going to be a huge trend in the forthcoming season. You may think that flowers are too obvious for spring and summer, but from discrete abstract floral prints to flamboyant dresses with flower appliques, there are many ways you can rock this trend.
Christopher Kane conceptualized the flower motif which has been used many times by almost all designers in the history of fashion and created something completely original. He made cutouts in the shape of petal and compared anatomy of flower to a female body through a series of graphs and illustrations printed on clothes.
Dolce & Gabbana, Giambattista Valli and Matthew Williamson designed some gorgeous pieces with colorful floral appliques, while Peter Pilotto, Mary Katrantzou, Preen and Jonathan Saunders made flowers look more electric and abstract. Antonio Marras, Temperley London and Alberta Ferretti used florals for romantic and fluttery summer dresses, but Mulberry and Eudon Choi made them modern and urban. Miuccia Prada printed flowers on her beautiful Miu Miu summer coats, while Vivienne Westwood played with the concept of wild and untouched nature and used floral patterns for her Red Label collection which deals with the issue of climate change.
Even though florals are traditionally more often used for women’s clothes, they are going to be a big trend for men as well, with some outstanding designs by Anna Sui, Prada and Meadham Kirchhoff.
