Damien Hirst and Miuccia Prada: The Entomology Bag

prada hirst

When Miuccia Prada and Damien Hirst meet – fashion becomes art. The result of their collaboration is a juice bar plus a shop stocked with precisely 20 ‘Entomology’ bags embroidered with insects – both situated in the middle of a desert in Quatar.

This very limited edition of handbags has typical Prada bag shape and looks very feminine. It is embellished with real insects and covered with a plexiglas case.  The insects, or to be more precise the Campanotus giganteum, the Nephile pilipes, theProsopocoilus occipitalis, the Eupholus cuvieri , and the Pachyrhyncus orbifer look fierce but beautiful and are decorated with beads and a bit of paint.

Considering the fact that the profit from this project will go to a charity supervised by Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad Al-Thani, chair of the Qatar Museums Authority, it all looks like a genuine artistic collaboration with no ulterior motifs. It is a fun symbiosis of art and fashion in which one becomes the other.
